Unauthorised Acess to Data Source Of Company by employee

Here’s a human resource lesson for companies. Never take employees, especially those with access to confidential information, for granted. Keep them in good humour.
In perhaps the first such reported case in the country, an ex–employee stole secret data of Delhi-based Driplex Water Engineering just because he was not happy with the treatment his bosses meted out to him.
Mukesh Aggarwal joined Driplex as senior engineer, EDP (electronic data processing), in February 2005, but resigned in April 2007.
Driplex is a leading turnkey solutions provider for water treatment, especially in the power sector. Its clients include various state electricity boards, NTPC, BHEL, Reliance Energy and refineries such as IOCL, HPCL.
The company came to know of the data pilferage in January 2008 when its managing director received a letter from Rajeev Nigam, who claimed his engineering and construction firm was secretly receiving valuable data, such as drawings, from a Driplex employee. To prove his claim, he attached a screen shot of a Driplex design with his letter. He said he had seen the design in his boss’ laptop. He also sent an email to Anuj Jain, one of Driplex’s design directors.
Alarmed, the company lodged a complaint with the economic offences wing (EOW), urging it to find the source of the emails. Investigation revealed the IP addresses from which the emails originated belonged to Mukesh Aggarwal.
Armed with this information, Driplex approached the adjudicating officer alleging violation of InformationTechnology Act 2000 and sought a compensation of Rs50 lakh from Mukesh for causing loss to the company.
The adjudicating officer, after checking facts and evidences, found that prima facie a case could be made out against Aggarwal and directed an inquiry into all the complaints of Driplex to ascertain violation of IT Act and decide appropriate compensation.
Not happy, Driplex recently filed an appeal before the cyber appellate tribunal in the capital.
