What are role-play simulations in Mediation?

Hugely popular, role-play simulations are hypothetical situations based upon real-world negotiation scenarios. Challenging and interactive, role-play simulations allow participants to step into the action by assuming key roles. By assessing specific circumstances and deliberating with other players, each participant learns to make decisions and solve problems in new and different ways. Providing a safe setting for experimentation, role-play simulations foster individual and collective learning that can be applied to real-world negotiations.
If you have not used role-play simulations in your class or organization I encourage you to download the FREE Sally Soprano Teaching Guidetoday and learn how using role-plays enhances the negotiation learning experience.

Role-play simulations are usually followed by debriefings in which participants - with the help of an instructor - reflect on how the exercise progressed, what they learned, and how these lessons relate to or diverge from real-life situations. Put simply, simulations are designed to help participants become better negotiators.1
